INSPECT the Inspector

History Repeats
During the purchase of a home there is the inevitable question:
- do I need a home inspection
- how do I choose a good one
- who do I call?
Choosing the right inspector has been an on going issue for a number of years.
Who yah gonna call?
You have decided, you want to buy this home. The pressure is extreme. Doubt, uncertainty rattle you. Will you make the right decision. Who can I trust for help? After all, it’s probably the biggest financial decision you will ever make.
Your Realtor® has insisted that you complete an inspection. But “who yah gonna call?” Which inspector, which company is the one you can trust to give you an accurate appraisal.
History
In 2006 Global TV completed a three part series of shows on Home Inspectors. To my knowledge, (I’m sure to offend someone with this statement) since that airing, very little has since been done to improve the licensing or governing of the inspector credentials. There are various associations claiming the holy grail.
There is still is no cohesive program that ensures a consumer can unreservadly call on an inspector who is has been trained by a recognized institution and therefore qualified, is licensed by the province and who does not have a disclaimer on the bottom of their contract that says you can’t sue them for their opinion.
A Refresher
In a busy market when time is short and decisions fast, it’s time to remind ourselves of the implications of not taking the time to inspect the inspector.
Here is the first of the reports Global did in 2006. Follow along in the next posts for the whole story.
