Our Parks – the Best Vancouver Real Estate
Posted January 30th, 2008 in Community, Observations | ![]()

Memorial West Park is a fabulous piece of Vancouver real estate. Centrally located in the heart of the Dunbar neighbourhood it is home to the Dunbar Community Center, a number of baseball diamonds, tennis courts, children’s play areas and beautiful walking trails. It’s a favorite of many locals. This picture aims across a playing field on the south side over to the forested area where the busy of the city is lost in thought as you wander the trails linking the active sports areas with the peaceful woodland.
History in Brief
This park was originally known as Dunbar Park. Prior to 1921 it was part of the Point Grey Municipality. It was renamed Memorial Park to commemorate the soldiers who died in World War I. In the following years when Point Grey and South Vancouver Districts amalgamated with the City of Vancouver, “West” was added to the name to distinguish it from South Vancouver’s Memorial Park South.
A little Oak Tree
Apparently there is an oak tree that came from Britain’s Windsor Great Park that was planted in 1937 as a commemoration to King George VI. One day I have to find someone who knows which tree it is. Can you identify it? I haven’t been able to find it.
This picture was taken Jan 29/08. It was so peaceful and quiet.
