Vancouver B.C. – Remembering 90 Years

LEST WE FORGET
In Flanders Fields
In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch, be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields
Appreciation
This was the first poem learned as a little person. At first, it was just a poem. With each season passing, it has grown in significance becoming one that never passes far from memory.
Remembrance Day
Today, the poem is part of Remembrance Day ceremonies in Canada and other countries. The poem was written by a Canadian – Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
Canadian Army

Wow, I was looking for a blog about Vancouver and I found your site with a poem (I love poetry).
I tell you, I’m a Jounrnalist from Chile, a country in the opposite site from Canada. I’m absolutely excited about studying in one of the most liveable cities in all the world. Curious, because I live in one of the saddest places of my country.
I’m gonna read your blog and I’ll try to understand the dinamics of Vancouver… a very nteresting place.
Un abrazo desde el desierto de Atacama!!!
How beautiful.
It makes me wonder how much life is appreciated by us as we grow older, but it is our very most lively that are sent off to war. Deeply indebted to their sacrifices.
