Muir Thoughts
Cameron Muir, BCREA’S economist tells us that sales are at their lowest since 2000.
No kidding! Look down any street for that story!
His take on things:
Dollar Volume is Down How Much?
MLS® DOWN 54% in October compared to 2007
What About Sales
Oh they are down too! Province wide, it rang the bell at -30%
The Ringer
Ding Dong – Province wide, prices are up 5%
Rationale du Muir
An aggravated lack of confidence!
Trenches
The negative news from the pundits, economists, soothsayers, television, newspapers and Realtors® continues to send Vancouver home buyers to the trenches.
Pep Rally for a Benchmark
What’s needed is a Pep Rally to cheer-in a new bench mark. Proposed is May 1963. In contrast, today’s du Muir thoughts on Vancouver Real Estate, 2007 is old grinding news. It’s tired, dull, boring bear fodder. Buyers need a Pep Rally that will usher in new spirit, a understanding that the sky is not falling and clear determination to become home owners.
1963
It’s as good a year as any and maybe more so for two reasons.
First, in 1963, few of those providing these grinding reports, were but gleams in their father’s eye. It’s possible that Pastrick from Central Credit Union, was a toddler in 1963, but some rocks should be left unturned.
Second, it’s a year that set itself apart from others in a solitary declaration that said ‘enough already’. This single action is recorded at Brainyhistory
New Benchmark – May 12, 1963
The day Bob Dylan walked off Ed Sullivan’s Show
The day is significant if you imagine some mysterious force taking hold of Muir et al, causing them to do what Dylan did – walk off the stage and stop screeching.

i remember ’63
b+w TV
haircuts were short back and sides
or buzz cut…. take your pick
you had to fill out a requisition
form at the liquor store to buy booze…….
$20 bucks lasted a loooooong time!
@ Blue
Remember walking back to high school and hearing that Kennedy was dead. The school was numb from the impact of the news. Sad day!
Don’t remember the liquor store requirement. That was the bootleggers job.
$20.00 –
As a bag stuffer at Super Value (eggs on top please), the hourly rate was $1.21 per hour. You still carried the customers groceries out to their car and said thank you for the opportunity. It seemed like you were living large.
