During a quick check of the MLS data I was reminded of the ‘Nun’s Priest’s Tale.’ Part of Chaucer’s story tells of the vain cock Chauntecler, who fell for the tricks of the fox. Within the tale is a passage of 4 lines wherein he refers to what scholars then and now debate as a reference to the day we call April Fools.
The results of the an April 1st MLS search did for a moment, cause belief that a hoax had been perpetrated or worse, that a fox was in the coup. For strange it was, to find that on the day of April Fools, Vancouver’s west side had exactly 7 detached homes sold during the 7 days prior.
A quick ruffle of feathers might suggest a contrived number aimed at perpetrating a hoax. It was not to be, for as you know – statistics don’t lie.
