Smoke Gets in My Eyes

Hornby Island

A favorite place to quickly decompress from the rigors of city life is Hornby Island. The pace on this island community is just a little above dead slow. It is close enough to travel to for a few days but far enough away that you are transported to quiet solitude and restful moments.

Forest Fires

This past while British Columbia as well as other provinces have been struck by temperatures that we covet but which after a prolonged period create tremendous fire dangers to our forests. Many of us have experienced skies tainted with shades of orange and falling ash. An experience that is both fascinating to the casual observer and worrisome for those with respiratory issues.

For many, recording this event in photographs is the new pass time and point of conversation. Admittedly I am a hacker when it comes to taking photographs. I have the equipment but I do not possess the artistic flair and composition finesse possessed by truly great photographers. Regardless, I try. To that end, with the orange skies and a sun framed by an old fir tree I offer up my version of the Smoke That Got In My Eyes.
