It’s time for Vancouver Real Estate - to Get It’s ICE On

Public Service Announcement

Pulse Check

Sometimes rumor is based on reality. A friend passed along the majority of the text herein via email. I thought it was another can of spam as it was unclaimed by an author and was without attribution. A quick check at Truth or Fiction seems to validate the concept. I remained skeptical but the idea, is sound. Further searches shone more light on the matter. It turns out to be a global campaign to have everyone with a cell phone to follow the procedures outlined below.

Turn on the Siren When it Makes Sense

In Ottawa, paramedics are urging people to take part. In British Columbia the CUPE sidebar entitled “Chill Out” says “The program, initiated in England this past spring, is jointly promoted in British Columbia by ambulance paramedics in CUPE Local 873 and their employer, the BC Ambulance Service.”

This idea is a clever way to make your mobile phone more valuable to you. It makes practical sense!

Slap on a Sticker

True to form, a company produces ICE stickers. I haven’t put a sticker on my phone. Personally, I’m not a fan of stick on labels, but after reading the following, I have ICE’d my phone’s memory. You should too! Here’s why -

ICE - ‘In Case of Emergency’

This is a standard procedure all paramedics follow (see CUPE above) at the scene of an accident when they come across your cell phone.

Emergency Contact

We all carry our mobile phones with names and numbers stored in its memory but nobody, other than ourselves, knows which of these numbers belong to our closest family or friends.

Who Do They Call?

If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldn’t know who to call. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency? Hence the ‘ICE’ (In Case of Emergency) Campaign.

Getting Ready

The concept of ‘ICE’ is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations. As cell (mobile) phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name ‘ICE’ (In Case Of Emergency).

Brilliant Concept

The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients, but they didn’t know which number to call.. He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognized name for this purpose. In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital Staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialing the number you have stored as ‘ICE.’

Nobody Home

For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc.

Simply Effective

A great idea that will make a difference!

Get the Word Out

Let’s spread the concept of ICE by storing an ICE number in our Mobile phones today!
