That’s Garbage
Posted January 8th, 2008 in Community, Sharing the Experience
The average household produces 834 kg of garbage. By any measure that’s a lot of garbage. Almost everything can be recycled - even video’s.
Here’s a few ways you can make a difference.
The City of Vancouver offers these tips.- check to see if it can be reconditioned
- consider sharing an item, one lawn mower instead of three
- as opposed to new, check and see if you can buy a second hand version
- don’t buy stuff that is over packaged
- don’t buy disposable items
- find out where items can be recycled - batteries, electronic equipment
- take your own bags when you go shopping. Canadians take home 55 million plastic bags every week.
Take it Back
Here are some places where you can take things back.- Medications
- Oil, filters and empty containers
- Tires
- Paint, Gas, Pesticides, Flammables
- Beverage containers
- Electonics
- Rechargeable batteries, lead acid batteries (car batteries)
